Walter “Bud” Rollin Downard passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Santa Clara, California at the age of 72. He was a long time Fremont Resident. Bud was born on October 3, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa to Walter and Thelma (Wagner) Downard. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. He was an army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Walter was honorably discharged from the Army in 1969.
Bud is survived by his two daughters, Natalie Blair and her husband Roy, of Pleasanton, CA and Nicole Dahlheim and her husband Ryan, of Livermore, CA. He was a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren, Jake & Lexi Blair (21 & 18), Myles & Marin Tollefsen (16 & 15), and Brielle & Gavin Dahlheim (5 & 2), Walter was also a loving uncle to his nieces, nephews, and loved by his other relatives and friends.
Bud worked as a carpenter and retired from the Local Carpenter’s Union in 1994. He grew up playing baseball and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed football, Warriors basketball and horse racing. He spent most of his weekends spending time with his children, grandchildren or with friends and fellow sports enthusiasts.
A celebration of life service will be held at 4:30pm, Tuesday, December 19 at The Pleasanton Fairgrounds (OTB Simulcast), located at 2100 Valley Avenue, Pleasanton CA 94566.
