Cheryl Marie Janke Hillman, longtime resident of Union City, passed away quietly at Fremont
Kaiser Hospital on Monday at age 68.
Cheryl was born at St. John's Catholic Hospital in Santa Monica, moved to the Bay Area, and
graduated from Alameda High School. She worked locally as a property manager for over 40
years where she built relationships and fostered a sense of community by organizing countless
events. Cheryl was an avid baker and lover of all things holiday-related. She dedicated her life
to celebrating the little things, spreading love and joy to those she cared about, especially her
family, and she provided a welcoming, non-judgemental space to all. She fought a long, painful
battle and is at peace now, with people she loves, and will be dearly missed.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Kurt Hillman; daughter, Jennifer (Hillman) Franklin;
son, Casey Hillman; grandchildren, Kayden (age 7), Jack (age 6), Blake (age 4) and Raelynn
(age 3); brothers, Robert Janke, Jerome Janke, John Janke; sister, Kathleen (Janke) Alford.
Her brother, Irving Janke, and her parents, Irvin Janke and Dorothy (Tomszak) Janke preceded
her in death.
Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019. Public viewing will begin at 9:15 am and
services begin at 10:30 am at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of Angels at 40842 Fremont Boulevard in Fremont,
CA. The burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 26320 Mission Boulevard in Hayward, CA
immediately afterward. A celebration of life will follow.
