Ronald Taylor, 86, of Fremont California for 56 years, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 17, 2019, at the Palo Alto Veterans hospital in the hospice ward being cared for by his family and the wonderful staff there. He was born in New Bedford Massachusetts to Lauringa de Costa, whose parents immigrated from Portugal, and Alvah Chase Taylor, whose family was of English descent. He had four sisters. Nancy and Pheobe are deceased and Ruth and Elizabeth live in Massachusetts.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Connie Coakley Taylor, his daughters Kathy (Jim) Cutler, Christine Taylor, Paula (Matthew) Mora, and sons Tim (Jeanne) Taylor, Dan Taylor, Matt Taylor, Dom (Melana) Taylor, and 14 beloved grandchildren.
He served 21 months in the Korean War. At American Airlines, he worked his way up from cargo handler to a manager on duty at San Francisco airport. He was known for his colorful personality and human touch while handling the operations that ensured flights moved smoothly in and out of San Francisco. After 40 years at American, he retired, spending his time caring for family and grandchildren. He was a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor. He often took people in with no questions asked, helping people through difficult times.
Ron was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, he was known and will be remembered for his love of his family and his faith in God. He will be missed.
A vigil will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 41933 Blacow Rd, Fremont, CA 94538, on Thursday, October 24 at 5:00 PM, and a memorial mass Saturday, October 26 at 10:00 AM.
