Sister Marjorie Wakelin, SHF March 26, 1931 - September 27, 2017 Sister Marjorie Wakelin, SHF, died peacefully at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Holy Family in Fremont after a long illness on September 27, 2017, at the age of 86. She was born Marjorie Josephine Wakelin in Santa Barbara, California, and entered the Sisters of the Holy Family from the Cathedral of St. Mary in San Francisco on July 2, 1949, at the age of 18. She was known in religion as Sister Eucharista until changing to her baptismal name. Sister Marjorie served in the field of religious education in various parishes in the Archdioceses of San Francisco and Los Angeles, and was Pastoral Associate at St. Timothy’s Parish in San Mateo from 1991-2002. She served as Executive Director for the Northern California branch of the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility from 1983-1988. Sister Marjorie was passionate about justice for the poor, a concern reflected in her work at ICCR as well as throughout her parish work and life in community. As pastoral associate, she also worked with the dying, and wrote in a reflection on life, death and dying in 2006: “I have always loved color and music and dance. Because of this, I await the color, music and dance of the heavenly kingdom, where union with my spouse will be fully realized.” Sister Marjorie has requested cremation. Her funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Sisters of the Holy Family, PO Box 3248, Fremont, CA 94539.
