Born in:
Tularosa, New Mexico
Resided in:
Fremont, California
Nettie Bibiano, a longtime resident of Fremont, CA, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born in Tularosa, New Mexico, on July 31, 1926, to Francis and Ignacio Castrillo. Nettie’s life was characterized by love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family.
She was baptized on August 5, 1926, shortly after birth. Nettie was the final surviving member of her immediate family, having lost her mother and siblings: Albert Castrillo, Margie Portillo, Helen Montoya, and Dan Castrillo, before her.
At the young age of 16, Nettie began a new chapter in her life when she relocated to San Francisco in 1942. Four years later, in 1946, she married her soulmate, Eloy Bibiano Sr., who sadly passed away before her. He was her true Mr. Gardenia, a name he earned for his thoughtful habit of gifting her favorite flower, the gardenia. Together, they built a loving family that became the center of her universe, blessing her with four children, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her family brought her immense pride and joy, and Nettie was lovingly known as “Big Mama,” a title given to her by her first great-grandson, Anthony. The legacy of love and togetherness she created lives on through Dolores Little, who preceded her in death, as well as Kathleen Quesada, David Bibiano, and Eloy Bibiano Jr., along with their extended families.
After retiring in 1984 from GTE Communications, where she worked as an assembly worker, Nettie embraced her golden years with her family. She took care of several of her grandchildren during their school years, connecting generations. Nettie was known for her delicious New Mexico-style enchiladas, her trips to the casino, and her love of playing cards. She also had a collection of coin purses, Betty Boop memorabilia, and little brown baby dolls. With a notable sweet tooth, she was often reluctant to share her favorite treats.
Nettie was more than just a loving grandmother, she was the best listener and offered wise advice with her signature phrase, “well that’s what they say.” She leaves behind a family that will forever cherish her memory and her unwavering love.
Nettie Bibiano will be profoundly missed; however, her spirit continues to reside in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life exemplified the incredible power of love, family, and unwavering strength.
