After his service to his country, J.B. began his civilian career at International Harvester in San Leandro, where he worked as a welder from 1963 to 1976. After International Harvester, he then joined FMC United Defense in San Jose, mainly as a welder but also holding various positions until 1997.
In 1998 J.B. decided it was time to continue his education at the Mission Valley ROP in Fremont, where he mastered the Microsoft Office Suite and application software in 1997, and attended the National Training Institute in Santa Clara the following year with a focus on computer service technology.
From 1998 until his retirement in 2018, J.B., worked at the Fremont Adult and Continuing Education School as a teacher, typing test administrator, and computer service technician. Throughout his time as an educator, J.B. was able to affect many lives with his expertise and passion for education.
He was a devout member of the Evangelical Free Church of America for many years and then moved to his current church, Cedars. He generously gave his time to the Compassion Network, embodying the spirit of volunteerism.
James was a beloved husband to his late wife, Evelyn Ruth Youngberg. The couple shared countless cherished memories together until her passing in September of 2015. J.B. was also a loving father to his late daughter Jamie Lynn Youngberg and leaves behind a legacy through his sons, J. A close friend wrote that “J.B. knew how to be content in whatever situation he found himself. Even when things weren’t going well. I never heard him complain or ever say anything bad about anyone.”
J.B.’s life was marked by his enduring strength, wisdom, and kindness—traits that deeply imprinted on his family and community. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, ensuring that his memory will be kept alive in the hearts of many.
