Mabel Clara Torres

Resided in:
Fremont, California
Mabel Clara Torres (nee Fernandes) passed away on February 12, 2018 in Fremont, California. She was born May 1, 1936 in Bombay (Mumbai), India and was raised there and in Goa, India. She migrated to Nairobi, Kenya in 1963 where she married the late Anthony J. Torres and had four daughters: Myra, Norma, Astrid, and Allison.
She was a career woman in India and continued by working for the Israel Foreign Trade Corporation in Nairobi, while raising her young family. It was her shorthand skills that allowed the family access to a work visa to the United States and the family migrated in 1974 to San Francisco, California. Within a few weeks Mabel started working at Bechtel Corporation and was there for 20 years. She worked as an executive assistant at Bank of America for another 20 years.
The family lived in Daly City, CA, later Mabel and Tony moved to San Bruno, CA for their retirement, and then to the San Francisco East Bay. After her husband passed away Mabel lived her last seven years at Lincoln Retirement Villa in Fremont, CA where she enjoyed chatting with friends in the garden courtyard and frequent outings with her daughters.
Mabel enjoyed gardening, singing, dancing, cooking, hosting and attending parties. She was proud that she managed to earn a college degree while working full time. She will be missed by many especially her grandchildren Vivian, Opal, Vance and Maxwell and her son-in-laws, Joshua Minor and Eric Osness. As one of ten children, she has siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends all over the world.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Dear Astrid and family,
My deepest condolences and prayers to your family.
Dearest Myra, Norma, Astrid and Allison ,
Sending you tons of love and strength as you are filled with memories of your Mom. The loss of a Mom is surely one of the most difficult losses to deal with but it is her strength, love and guidance that she has always shown and taught you’ll that will get you’ll through it. We will always remember her for her wit, strength, composure and the ease at which she could hold a conversation on any topic.
It is so beautiful that she left us just as the wild, white calla lilies have started to bloom. Fondly remember them all over her beautifully kept garden, blooming at this time of the year.
Never to be forgotten.
Love,
Aleya, Lester and Aloma
Dear Myra, Norma, Astrid and Allison – my deepest sympathy for the loss of Aunty Mabel your beloved mother. My first solo trip abroad was to stay with your family for your parents anniversary. Heather.

To Mabel’s family, my sincerest condolences. I met her at Lincoln Villa and shared many lovely conversations in the garden and at meals. She was a thoughtful, reflective person with many stories to tell about her life and family. She was very proud of you all. Pls accept your condolences in regards to your great mom’s passing nearly 6 years ago. I googled her name and found out that she passed away recently. I remember meeting all of you in Daly City and Vancouver (near our airport) 34 yrs ago and the road trip that my Dad’s friend, Bonaventure Correa took us to Reno and Lake Tahoe then. My mom is not doing too well after her 2bd stroke nearly 8 years ago.
