Born in: Sturgis, South Dakota
Resided in: Fremont, California

Helen Jorgensen of Fremont, CA went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2025.   Helen was born in Sturgis, South Dakota, and moved to Stockton, California, at the age of four. She lived there until attending San Jose State University, where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education and met her husband, Don. She began her teaching career in San Jose before settling in Fremont. Over the years, she taught in many capacities, including home‑schooling children who were injured or too ill to attend school. She also spent many years as a kindergarten teacher’s aide, working primarily as a reading specialist. Later, she assisted Don in his CPA practice and eventually worked as a full‑charge bookkeeper for a company in Alameda.

Helen’s love of music began early. She learned to play the saxophone, clarinet, and piano, and even earned a scholarship to study the organ. She played saxophone in the SJSU marching band and sang throughout her life in both church and community choirs—most notably performing at Carnegie Hall. She devoted countless hours to her church through Christian Education, teaching and overseeing the Sunday school program, and later serving as finance chair at Irvington Presbyterian Church, where she had been a member since 1963.

Beyond her professional and church life, Helen enjoyed genealogy, was active with Girl Scouts, treasured time with her family, and had a lifelong passion for sewing, crocheting, and many other crafts. She and Don were active participants in investment clubs, and after his passing, she continued her community involvement by joining both Sons and Daughters of Norway.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Donald Jorgensen and daughter Gayle Jorgensen.  She is survived by her sister Hazel White, daughters and son in law’s Karen and Bill Boyce, Diana and Kirk Cumming, grandchildren Jon Boyce, Lindsay Wunderlich, Kira Cumming, and Kylie Cumming, three great grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

To honor Helen’s memory, contributions to Irvington Presbyterian Church are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A memorial service will be held at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 4181 Irvington Avenue, Fremont, CA at 11:00 am on January 17th.
