Joseph Cimino

Joseph Anthony Cimino, age 93, passed away peacefully after a long illness on October 18, 2025 in Fremont, CA. Joseph was born on July 5, 1932, in Boomer, West Virginia to Antonio and Rosie Cimino. His parents were immigrants from Italy that came through Ellis Island. He was a long-time resident of Fremont, CA and lived there for 70 years until his passing.

Joseph’s elementary education started in 1937 in West Virginia. Then his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he finished his education and graduated from high school. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Bonhomme Richard, an aircraft carrier. Joseph met and married the love of his life Angelina Durante-Cimino in July of 1954!

He was a devote Catholic and was a member at Holy Spirit Church since 1956. Joseph enjoyed numerous activities such as fishing, hunting, traveling, camping, visiting casinos, listening to music, dancing and taking pictures at family gatherings. He enjoyed being with his kids, friends and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren reading to them and teaching them about the outdoors and nature.

Joseph was a very outgoing and friendly person. He was easy to talk to and loved to tell stories. He was deeply loved by his family and all his friends. He was a joy to be around, and his happy outgoing nature was contagious by anyone that spent time with him. Joseph had a helpful serving heart, and he was at his happiest when helping others.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Angelina Cimino;, his daughters, Cathy Joann (Cliff) Rose, Bernadette (Bill) Jenkins, and Theresa (Stan) Blanca; his sons, Tony Cimino, Ken (Sheri) Cimino and Johnny (Michelle) Cimino; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Antonio and Rosie Cimino,  his sisters, Barbara (Gusto) Zavattaro, Mary (Bob) Waugh, Angel (Donald) Shock, Fanny (Ed) Broslawik; his brothers, Frank (Mary) Cimino, Dominic (Helen) Cimino.

A visitation for Joseph will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 PM at Holy Spirit Parish 37588 Fremont, Blvd., Fremont, CA.

Burial will be immediately following the mass at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, 48800 Warm Spring Blvd., Fremont, CA.

The family invites those who knew Joe to join in celebration of his life for a reception held at Cedar Church, 38325 Cedar Blvd., Newark, CA 94560
