Sister Jennifer Ogorek, OP, died at Saint Martin Residence, Fremont, California, on May 21. She was 68 years old and in the 45th year of her religious profession. Born on August 24, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana, she moved with her family to Santa Ana, California, when she was five years old. She met the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose at St. Callistus Parish, Garden Grove, and entered the Congregation in 1971. Two years later, December 29, 1973, she made first profession of vows as a Dominican Sister. A talented artist, Sister Jennifer earned a BA in Art at College of Notre Dame, Belmont, California. In southern California she taught at St. Callistus School, Garden Grove; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Santa Barbara; St. Michael’s High School, Los Angeles; and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Canada Flintridge. Sister Jennifer also ministered as a Pastoral Assistant at St. Irenaeus Parish, Cypress. Sister Jennifer is survived by her sister Kristina Weatherly, her brother Michael Ogorek, her cousin Glenna Matthews, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 28 at 5:00 p.m. at the Dominican Sisters’ Motherhouse, Mission San Jose. Interment will take place the following morning at the Congregation’s cemetery, God’s Acre, located Motherhouse.
