Resided in: Fremont, California

Sister M. Timothy Cronin, SHF, died peacefully at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Holy Family in Fremont on January 5, 2019, at the age of 92. She was born Mary Ann Cronin on June 26, 1926, in Richmond, California, and entered the Sisters of the Holy Family from St. Mark’s Parish there on January 6, 1945, at the age of 18. Between 1945 and 1976 Sister Timothy served in various parishes in the Dioceses of San Francisco and San Jose in the field of religious education. In 1976 she was named Assistant Treasurer of the Sisters of the Holy Family, a position she held until becoming Treasurer General in 1983. In 1992 she was called to family ministry, and on returning to the Motherhouse in 2000, she began volunteer ministry in the Finance Department, which continued until her retirement in 2010. She continued with community ministry until her health required a reduction in activities. Sister Timothy began working with computers early in the home computer age, and became something of an expert around the Motherhouse, someone the other Sisters could turn to when they were having problems with email or other tasks. She was always gracious and willing to share her expertise. The Mass of Resurrection for Sister Timothy will be celebrated on Monday, January 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sisters of the Holy Family Oratory. Interment will take place that afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

Guestbook

  1. I first met Sister Timothy at St.Timothy’s Catholic Church in San Mateo, when I was a child preparing for my first communion. I always admired her for her devotion to God and service to the children as she was the principal of the St. Timothy’s School of Religion. At that time there probably were over 200 children attending CCD on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 11:00 . When I became a teenager and enrolled (after several years of not attending), I met several other teenagers who helped on Saturdays, setting up chairs and tables, showing filmstrips, getting there before classes and leaving after the work was done. Sister Timothy always remembered us, making sure we got our hot dogs during the fund raisers, and giving us responsibility. This was in the 1950 and 1960’s. One day, I heard her say in the office to one of the teachers, that she could be re-assigned sometime. I said to Sister, “Sister, when you leave, that’s when I leave”. Sister Timothy turned to me and said, “Randy, you should not be doing this for me, but for God.” We corresponded a few years after I left, and I will always remember her. She was a devoted nun, and through her, I gained a special respect for those who devote their lives to God. Sister Timothy, thank you for the confidence you had in me when I was a teenager, and the example you inspired!
