Alice Aurora Boyer passed peacefully at home on January 7, 2018, surrounded by her four daughters, two sisters and many family members. She was born on January 11, 1934 in the Philippines and grew up in Manila, joining the US Navy immediately after high school. At the age of 21, John Boyer proposed to her and Alice married the love of her life in Waukegan, Illinois.
Alice was widowed at the age of 34 and was left to raise four young girls. Out of necessity, she enrolled herself in driving school and Heald Business College. She subsequently worked at a number of companies including Leasametric and California Casualty.
Alice was an avid Bingo player(won often!), loved going to Las Vegas and enjoyed watching the Warriors and Forty Niners, She was a skilled seamstress for a myriad of people, including her family, high school cheerleading squads and local nuns. And no family event or celebration was complete without her famous home-made lumpia, which disappeared as fast they were made.
The majority of Alice’s life was dedicated to her daughters, grand-children and great-grandchildren of whom she was incredibly proud. She loved attending their school functions, sporting events, graduations and marriages. Four days prior to her death, Alice’s third great grand-daughter, Nora Ann, was born. Alice was blessed to have held her in her arms the night before her passing.
The way Alice lived her life spoke volumes. She was a champion for the poor, the lonely and any person or animal in need. She gave her love wholeheartedly, without reservation, to everyone blessed enough to have known her. We will miss her fierce ability to assert herself in the name of righteousness, her capacity to look radiant and beautiful every day of her life, and her love of any animal print fashion. Her life was lived with a deep sense of faith and family.
Alice’s life will live on in the hearts of her daughters Jean Fay(Morgan), Geraldine Straughn(Gordon), Arlene Dugoni(Bill), Helen Boyer(Maikel Garcia); grandchildren Jennifer, Morgan Jr., Amanda, Christopher, William III, Andrew, Matthew, Gabrielle and Gordon Jr.; great granddaughters Olivia, Avery and Nora Ann; siblings Mae Woo and Pearl Rivera. Alice is joyfully reunited with her spouse John, her beloved parents John and Aurora Martin and her brother William Martin.

Geraldine, Jean, Arlene and Helen ~ My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this very difficult time. Your mom was one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever known; both inside and out. You are all a reflection of her and I admire you all for the women you have become. She will be missed dearly. May her soul rest in peace, and for you – comfort through the love of God.
Dear Jean, Geraldine, Arlene, and Helen!
Such vivid memories rushing through my mind of your beautiful mom. I was always struck by her humility which wrapped her quiet thankfulness at any compliment given her: All of us who know all of you attribute her kind sense of the world to her guiding example and love. I shall continue to remember her fondly and hold you all dearly during this mourning time. She is resting in the palm of Our Lord’s hand!
