barbara pastor

December 2, 1946 ~ April 22, 2020

Born in: Isabela, Philippines
Resided in: SAN LEANDRO, CA

Barbara M. Pastor of San Leandro, California, and Isabela, Philippines joined her Creator on April 22, 2020 due to end-stage renal disease. Her final days were spent at Park Central Skilled Nursing Facility, Fremont.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Carmen Lambinicio and her brother Flor Pastor; nieces Evelyn, Marilyn, Cristine, Gigi, Joan Joyce, Jennifer; nephews Dominador, Jomel, Joel, Villamor, William, Samuel and Rey; fifteen (15) grandchildren, and thirteen (13) great-grandchildren.

She was born in Isabela, Philippines on December 2, 1946. The youngest of seven siblings of Basilio Pastor (+) and Aurelia Manglaylay Pastor (+). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of the East, Manila, Philippines. Barbara resided at Quezon City, Philippines, and later migrated to the United States where she settled in San Leandro, California where she was employed as a Bilingual Teacher (Filipino)with the San Lorenzo Unified School District until her retirement on 2016. In conjunction with her being a teacher, she also worked with TJ Maxx.

The deceased has endearing qualities that her family and friends will greatly miss. Foremost is her being friendly and caring. She has lots of friends who she often calls on the phone just to get in touch. Similarly, she’s very generous not only to her family but also to her friends and acquaintances. She would give all of herself to the point that nothing is left of her, literally and figuratively speaking. By nature, she loves her independence, a celibate till her last breath. Also, her signature powerful laughter that lighted-up conversations, her food trips with family and friends to such places as Max’s, Gerry’s Grill, Goldilocks, and Japanese Restaurants, her birthday greetings- she has a keen memory of birthdates, …these and many more qualities she will be well-remembered.

Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those who in one way or the other extended their utmost love and care to Barbara particularly to the Staff of the Parkside Central Skilled Nursing Facility, to the Lambinicio, Macasieb, Tiburcio, Carabillas, Manglaylay, Pastor, and Sales families.  Sincere thanks to her friends Susan Ma, Pacita and Al Macasieb.

There will be a private memorial service to be held at the Chapel of the Angels, Fremont, California. In light of the Shelter-in-Place, live streaming of the service will be provided for family and friends who would like to witness the final rites. Her final resting place will be at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, CA.

  6. All of us at work, those that knew and respected her will agree that Barbara gave herself to life, education, friends without expectation or judgment. She was loving, hopeful that she was contributing not only to the education of children but the betterment of her people. She reached points of abnegation when she pursued her responsibilities, over the seasons and the years, she would mobilize herself to action, under the rain, in the cold or under heat, she was there, where she was needed, she was relentless in her pursuit of service to others; she was grateful for her many friends and loving and giving, with her heart based on her convictions and her beliefs of fairness and retribution. When people like Barbara pass away they leave a void in the life of many. I am a better person for having met her. I will miss your rectitude and your exemplary manners. I will miss your laughter, your judgments and your stubbornness, I will miss you Barbara. It’s time to rest, to be with God and join your loved ones.
