Carol Lee Turner

Carol was born on March 23, 1945 to parents Burt and Ruth Simpson in Santa Cruz, California. She grew up in San Jose,  attending Del Mar high school,  graduating in 1963 and then attending  and graduating from San Jose State.

Her professional career spanned more than 45+ years in the insurance field. She was an early adoptee of BART. Travelling to San Francisco daily from Fremont,  first from her residence in Sunnyvale and later her homes in Newark.

In her free time she took up bodybuilding. Participating in tournaments and enjoying her time in the gym and the results.

In 1991 she switched to running. Starting slowly, with 5k and 10k distances.  In 2004 she ran her first half marathon, taking on the inaugural Big Sur half marathon on Monterey Bay. She was hooked.  She finished more than 250 half marathons in her running career. Never abandoning the shorter distances,  Carol usually finished 35-40 races a year. She also placed in her age group in these events over 80% of the time.

She was also a strong supporter of Bay area sports teams. With season tickets to the San Jose Sharks, and a steady follower of the 49ers, Raiders, A’s and Giants. She also supported Stanford, Cal and San Jose State athletics.

She is survived by her partner of 35 years, Chris Sullivan, her sister Gail McCauley and her husband Grant and their children Jess and Amanda as well as her brother Alan. She also has numerous cousins, nephews and nieces who will miss her.

She also has two other groups who will miss her in their ranks, the Mission Peak Striders, who helped develop her running talents and the staff at Bayside club where she regularly worked out.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 2^nd at 10:30 AM at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., followed by a celebration of life at 257 Segovia Pl. Fremont, Ca.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the American Red Cross or Susan G Koman Foundation.
