Chris-Edward Paul Brandt, 79, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022 in Castro Valley, CA after a brief illness.
Chris was born on April 10, 1943 in Tallahassee, FL and grew up in Yonkers, NY. He attended Regis High School in New York City and graduated from Iona Preparatory in New Rochelle, NY. He completed coursework at Manhattan College in New York City prior to joining the US Army in May 1966. He achieved the rank of Sergeant, earning the Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After his Army service, Chris began working in a middle management position at General Foods in White Plains, NY before transferring to San Leandro, CA in 1970. He worked for General Foods for 25 years before moving to Savin Corporation prior to retiring.
He married Madelyn (Lynn) Coggins on March 18, 1972 and purchased a home in Fremont, CA where they lived for many years. Though they later divorced, Lynn remained a presence in Chris’ life and generously provided support to him.
Chris was a big sports fan and particularly loved the Baltimore Orioles, New York Jets, and New York Rangers. He supported his children in their activities, including volunteering as a baseball scorekeeper and CYO basketball equipment manager, in addition to attending many dance recitals. Chris passed along his love of music to his children, who spent many weekends listening to his collection of old 45’s. He loved to give extended hugs and was quick to share a big smile, especially when he spent time with his favorite dogs Sherlock and Finn.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Albert Cudney and Kathryn Elizabeth Cudney (Hoss), and his sister Kathleen Cecile Cudney.
Chris is survived by his daughter Patti Cudney of Fremont, CA; son Michael, daughter-in-law Kandice, granddaughter Holyn, and grandson Daxton of Chula Vista, CA; daughter Denise Cudney of Ramona, CA; son Matthew, daughter-in-law Jessica, and granddaughter (due January 2023) of Reseda, CA; brother Kevin Cudney and sister-in-law Dorinda of Broomfield, CO; and eight nieces and five nephews.
A private burial will be held in January 2023. A celebration of life will be planned in spring 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or the American Heart Association.
I am so sorry for your loss Patti. May his soul rest in eternal peace. May peace be with you and your family. Love,
