Constance Ellen Taylor

Constance Ellen Coakley Taylor, affectionately known as Connie, died August 27^th, 2026 in Fremont, California surrounded by family.

Connie was born January 9^th, 1934 in Linton, Indiana to Timothy and Lenna Mae (Coulter) Coakley, the youngest of ten children. She loved her family and attended as many reunions as she was able. Connie grew up in Linton and graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1951. Soon after graduation, Connie moved to Washington D.C. and worked as a stenographer until 1956 in government positions. In 1955 Connie sailed to Europe and, among other places, visited her ancestral home in Ireland.

Washington, D.C. was where Connie met Ronald Taylor, who was from Massachusetts, and they married June 9^th, 1956 at St. Thomas Apostle Catholic church. They settled in Falls Church, Virginia and had three of their seven children there before relocating to California in 1962, finally settling in Fremont.

Connie’s faith was central to her life. She belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe church and before that, to Saint Leonard Church. She raised her children in the faith and made many good friends at church. She believed in living the tenants of her faith, not just professing them, so she joined with other friends to speak up for those who had no voice. They formed a teaching group called Voice for the Unborn and in the late 1960’s began peaceful demonstrations. Always involved with pro-life, she also spoke up for humane treatment of animals and showed, by her example, taking care of the earth. Although she spent hours writing letters to the editor, she always had a healthy hot meal on the table for her children and whoever else was in the house at the time. Connie had the gift of hospitality. All were welcome and there was always room for visitors to stay. Her children’s friends have fond memories of being welcomed into her home. And she was a good cook!

Connie is predeceased by her husband, Ronald Taylor, and her siblings, Rev. Donald Coakley, Mary Merideth, Timmie Coakley, Margaret Magnuson, John Coakley, Paul Coakley, Elizabeth Larrabee, and Francis Coakley. Connie is survived by her sister Rose Bunch, many nieces and nephews, and her children, Kathy (Jim) Cutler, Tim (Jeanne) Taylor, Dan Taylor, Christine Taylor, Paula (Matthew) Mora, Matthew Taylor, and Dominic (Melaña) Taylor, 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Her funeral will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish 41933 Blacow Rd., Fremont, CA at 10:00am on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Followed by a luncheon at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA from 11:30am to 2:00pm.
