Daniel R. Bega
February 14, 1938 ~ December 13, 2022
Resided in:
Fremont, California
Daniel Raymond Bega passed away peacefully at home on December 13th, 2022 with family at his side.
He was the youngest and last surviving child of Louis Ortega Bega and Antonia Cortez Marquez Torreno, immigrants from Malaga and Cadiz, Spain who settled in San Leandro, CA on Orchard Avenue. Daniel was preceded in death by his three siblings: Annie (Bega) Salsedo, Joseph Bega, and Louie Bega. Daniel graduated from San Leandro High School in 1956, where he fell in love with the girl down the street, Jane Garcia. They were married for 44 years until her passing in 2002.
Daniel worked for Lockheed for over 30 years, where he met and befriended coworkers that he would remain in contact with until his final days.
After Jane lost her battle with cancer, Daniel reconnected with his high school classmate Laureen (Burger Young) Bega and soon married. They spent time with the Fremont Elks, motorhome clubs, and traveling on cruises until her death in 2017.
One day while dancing at the Fremont Senior Center in Fall of 2017, Daniel met Betty Swanson and they have happily spent the last five years together.
To be a friend with Dan, meant you were friends for life. Starting from Kindergarten, “The Gang” personified what a lifelong friendship meant to him that started over 80 years ago. Additional friendships came from clubs, work, parent groups, hobbies and community groups throughout his life.
Family meant the world to Daniel. He spent his last years living fully and loving strongly. His bond with his children and grandchildren ran deep. His guidance, the stories that taught life lessons, and the joy they shared together will be forever remembered.
Daniel is survived by his son, Daniel Bega (Petrina Perry) his daughter, Laurie (Bega) Fracolli (Kevin Fracolli) as well as his grandchildren Marisa Petrina (Luke Gover), Mark Daniel, Stephanie Ann, and Christopher John (Alyssa Larson). He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Nathaniel Jeremy, Logan James, and Gia Josephine.
He was affectionately known as “Pops” “Danny” and “Uncle Dan” to his countless nieces, nephews, family, friends, and the community. Dan will be missed for his love of life and the joyous laughter he brought to all who knew him.

Laurie, Danny and all your family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Dan touched so many people, he was such a kind, fun, man and everyone loved him. I love you.
I will miss Dan. We so enjoyed our RV travels, Elks and the cruise to Alaska. He was always entertaining, friendly and loving.
Our years at Lockheed were the best in our younger years.
So sorry, to hear that you are gone. But knowing that you were my godfather, you always been in my heart. RIP Uncle Dan 🙏🏼❤️
Dan and I worked together closely, side by side, for many years at Lockheed. We also shared many early years sociably with Dan and Jane and his children when they were small kids camping and boating on Lake Don Pedro. I have fond memories of Dan and I will always consider him to be a true gentleman and a very special friend.
May he rest in peace.
Dan, was my favorite Boss at Lockheed. I’ve worked for him for many years until he retired. I have had several bosses after that but none like him, not even close. He was funny, caring, understanding and patient. He was loved by everyone due to his charismatic nature. May God grant your gentle soul eternal peace in His Kingdom of love and glory.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. He will dearly be missed. But you will always have the memories of him in your heart.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your wonderful Dad. I have such great memories of him. Sending prayers of comfort and strength to you and your family.
Love,
Maria
