David Leslie Marymee

David Leslie Marymee was born on May 18, 1920 to Josephine and Elmer Marymee in the family's farmhouse near Bladen, Nebraska. He was the oldest of six children and worked on the farm while attending Bladen High School, where he graduated in 1936. He attended Kearney (Nebraska) State Teachers College and graduated in 1940 with a degree in Education. He taught at a public school Julesberg, Colorado until the summer of 1942 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed basic training in San Diego and was later stationed at Ft. Worth and Corpus Christi, Texas. On January 30, 1943, he married Leona Evangeline Lingwall in Corpus Christi. Later, he trained aviation personnel in the use of radar in North Carolina. He served on the islands of Saipan and Guam during the final months of World War II and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1946.
After the war, he returned to Nebraska where he taught and served as a principal in public schools. In 1953, he received a master's degree in Counseling from the University of Colorado. In August 1958, he accepted a teaching position at Tennyson High School in Hayward, California. The Marymee family moved to Fremont in 1959, where Dave and Leona remained as residents until moving to Union City in 2012. Dave transfered to La Vista Junior High School in Hayward, where he worked as a guidance counselor. He later returned to Tennyson High and worked there until his retirement in 1985.
Dave and Leona were founding members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Fremont. Dave was a member of the Kearney State Alumni Association and he served most recently as Sunshine Chairman for Pathfinder Chapter 59 of Sons In Retirement (SIRS.)
He died at Washington Hospital on July 23 due to complications caused by a bacterial infection.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Leona; daughter Cynthia of Fremont; son Mark, daughter-in-law, Carla, and grandson, Evan, of West Bloomfield, Michigan; and son Tim and daughter-in-law, Evelyn, of Kirkland, Washington. He is also survived by brothers Wesley Marymee of Thornton, Colorado and Frank Marymee of Hayward, California, and a sister, Maxine Smith of Dennison, Texas.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Dave Marymee will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1301 Mowry Ave., Fremont.
