Dorothy E. Ferreira passed away quietly on January 21, 2022, after a brief stay at the hospital.  Born on April 22, 1927, to George and Beatrice Enos, and She grew up in the Irvington area of Fremont. She attended Irvington Elementary and Washington Union High School.

When she was sixteen years old, she was asked to be a secretary in the offices of “Pop” Goold, Principal, where she remained until she married the love of her life, Verne, in 1953 at St. Joseph’s Parish. Dorothy and Verne were married almost 60 years. During their 50th anniversary cruise they were invited to attend the Blue Garter Day Ceremony at Windsor Castle in England. They had lunch at the castle followed by a procession of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip and other members of the royal family. Along with cruising she and Verne loved musical theater, opera and plays. She loved her church and attended every event she could until she became ill.

Dorothy loved her family. She is survived by her sister, Mabel Gomes, her nephews, Glenn Gomes and Donn Gomes, and niece, Jan McDonnal.  She is predeceased by her husband, Verne F. Ferreira.

The family wishes to thank Nancy Enzon and her team for their loving care.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. CandleI light this candle in remembrance of my beloved Auntie. May she find eternal peace (and say Hi to Uncle Vernie for me!)
    Love,

    Jan

  2. CandleDearest Mabel and family,

“This beautiful lady blessed so many people with her faith and kindness. Praying that you’ll find comfort in your memories of her and in the knowledge that others are missing her, too.”

  3. CandleDorothy was a long-time member of Young Ladies Institute (YLI) and will be sadly missed by her YLI sisters.
We offer our love, prayers and God’s gracious healing to her loving family.
May the angels swiftly lead Dorothy into paradise.

  4. CandleI met Dorothy at work after her husband Verne had passed. She was always so kind and caring. She had such wonderful stories to tell about her days cruising with her husband around the world. I’ll treasure every time we got together. Although we started through a business relationship, we ended as friends.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servant Dorothy with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Into paradise may the angels lead you. At your coming may the martyrs receive you, and bring you into the holy city Jerusalem.
