Douglas Campbell

douglas campbell
Doug was born in Los Angeles CA to Maxine Morey Campbell and Thomas (Jack) Eugene Campbell. An only child, Doug grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1957.Enlistment in the Navy came next, with training in electronics at Treasure Island, San Francisco Bay. While at TI Doug met his future wife, Helen Bennett. Following completion of Doug's military service the couple married in 1963 and settled in Fremont, CA where they remained. Evan Scott debuted in 1964, followed by Cristine Anne in 1965, Charles William in 1969 and twins James Andrew and Robert Carson in 1972. Doug's first employer following the US Navy was Ampex Corp, followed by the company now known as Precision Echo, for whom he worked for for more than 25 years. Doug enjoyed amateur radio and spoke daily on the radio with two friends whom he met in Ampex days, Mark Bradley and Henry Meyer, until the week preceding his death. He learned a love of pipe organ music from his father and installed and maintained a small pipe organ in the family's first home. While the children were small, camping vacations with his family and church friends occupied many happy weekends and summer days. A logical extension of growing up in a railroad family, Niles Canyon Railroad was a retirement passion, particularly the part he played in the relocation and restoration of Sunol Depot. There wasn't a great deal Doug couldn't fix, given a set of screwdrivers and a few power tools. He lent his expertise to two Catholic parishes in Fremont, first St. Leonard's (now Our Lady of Guadalupe) and following his family's move to the parish, St. Joseph/Mission San Jose, where Music Ministry benefited from his electronics background and love of music. Doug is survived by Helen, his wife of 50 years, their son Evan (Mary Lemas), daughter Cristine (Gilford Patton), son Charles (Angela Hartley), son James, Son Robert (Jennifer Mirigian) amd grandchildren Megan, Alexander and Matthew Patton, Zachary and Nathan Campbell and Catherine Campbell. His passing leaves a large hole in our hearts and those of his extended family and friends.
