Duane Irwin Pickett

Mr. Pickett taught chemistry at the College of Emporia during my four years (1964-1968) at this institution. I can pretty clearly still visualize his face along with Dr. Max E. Pickerill (“Pick”), and Dr. Jesse Wood. I had Mr Pickett for “general chemistry” but didn’t do as well as I wanted to. I remember him as a very well groomed young man who always was very professional in manners. He drilled qualitative chemical analysis into our heads making us remember the schematic pathways by heart. I didn’t do so well in my first course but he took part in molding me a serious student during that first year. I ended up graduating with chemistry as my major and pursued chemistry as my profession. I didn’t know Mr. Pickett as well as Pick or Dr. Wood, but I have very, very fond memories of all of them and those times. I was so lucky to have gone to C of E and have them as part of my life. Please accept my condolences to Mr. Pickett’s wife and family.
