Edna Durst Benbow was born on March 5, 1929 in Capay, CA in Yolo County. Edna died peacefully on the night of Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Fremont, CA. Edna was from the pioneer family immigrating from Switzerland and Germany in 1854. Her grandparents Frolidin and Augusta (Frietag) Durst made their home in Dunnigan, CA (Yolo County). Her parents Herman and Viola (Burger) Durst were farmers and and raised sheep in Esparto, CA (Yolo County). Edna married Oliver Benbow on August 29, 1948. They purchased a farm in rural Irvington District of Fremont where they raised 5 sons. Here they operated a dairy farm, grew crops, and raised cattle and horses. Edna was involved with the Bayside 4-H Club for over twenty years and taught young girls cake decorating. She was also active in the Child Welfare Group and was a member of the Irvington Presbyterian Church in Fremont. She loved visiting friends and family and was a world traveler. Edna is survived by her sons Ron Benbow (Alejandro) of Fremont, CA, Richard Benbow of Sunol, CA, Dennis Benbow (Debbie) and William Benbow of Oakldale, CA. She was preceded in death by her son Steven Benbow, her daughter-in-law Bonnie Benbow, her grandson Tom Benbow, her brother Melvin Durst and her parents Herman and Viola Durst. Family and friends are invited to attend a 9:30 AM visitation on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 with an 11:00 AM service at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA. Interment will follow the service at Irvington Memorial Cemetery, 41001 Chapel Way, Fremont, CA. Donations to Friends of the Esparto Regional Library, Children's Services, P.O.
