Edward Joseph 'E.J.' Gallagher, 78, resident of Fremont, passed away February 23 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born in San Mateo, March 7, 1934, the son of Raymond and Laura Gallagher. Edward attended Serra High School and began his collegiate studies at SF State College before enlisting in the Army. He played football in high school and college and was part of the Army traveling team while stationed in Japan during the Korean War. When he returned from Japan, he attended USF and received a business degree in accounting. Edward married Bilma on January 26, 1957 and together they raised 6 children. He spent the majority of his working career as a self-employed accountant working from his home office. Edward had a passion for his family and his church. He was gentle, sweet, fun loving and full of life. He loved family gatherings and barbeques. He coached his children's sports teams including little league and CYO basketball. He was an original member of St. Leonard's Parish when it opened in 1960 and remained an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Edward was long time Lector and Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is pre-deceased by both parents and son Kevin and daughter in law Betsy. He is survived by wife Bilma; five children Laurene Brinlee (Phil), Sean Gallagher, Julie Bilotti (Dennis), Brian Gallagher (Tina) and Christopher Gallagher (Jennifer); fifteen grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers James Gallagher and Raymond Gallagher, one sister Gerry Curtis. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 16, 2013 at 12 noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
