Gary Ekman passed away at home on October 23, 2015 surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Born November 22, 1948 to Les and Arlene Ekman (deceased), he was raised in Berkeley, California. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy Ekman, daughter Terri Ekman and son Thomas Ekman (Angela). He leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren, Sammi Schulz and Thomas Jr., two brothers Bobby and Kenny Ekman, and his sister and brother-in law Mary and Fred Okal, Barbara (Ron, deceased) Karlin, nieces Jennifer Harper (Dennis), Diane Salaiz (Benny), and nephews Steven Okal (Jessica), David Karlin (Penny, deceased) and Gary Karlin (Kim) and many other close friends and relatives. He will be greatly missed by all.
Gary was in the United States Army from 1968 – 1972, and served in the Vietnam War. He went on to work for the US Post Office for 30 years, then on to the Stanford Athletic Department. Gary loved all sports but his passion was bowling. He spent many years bowling at Cloverleaf Bowl where he was well known and loved. The friendships and love extended to Gary during his illness by his family at Cloverleaf were proof of the bond and friendships he cultivated over the years. Thank you to all his Cloverleaf family for your love and support.
