George Perry passed peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the age of 78.  A resident of Fremont since 1976, he was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area to John and Virginia Perry.  He graduated from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California in 1963.  While in high school, he lettered in football and wrestling.  After graduating from high school, he started his career working in construction as a drywall taper.

George met Marilyn through the Angelis Club, a catholic group in the 1960’s and they were married on April 24, 1971, in San Leandro, CA at St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

George is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn and his devoted children, Cathleen Perry of Fremont, Karen Magana of Roseville, and grandchildren, Annalisa and Alex Magana.  George is also survived by his brothers, William Perry of Arizona, Richard Perry of Sparks, Nevada, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He is proceeded in death by his brothers, John and James Perry, his sister Georgette Perry and his parents, John and Virginia Perry.

George was a drywall taper for 50 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Mission San Jose since 1976 and both he and Marilyn were lay ministers.  He was a member of the Men’s club at St. Joseph’s and was active in the Knights of Columbus in the 1960’s and 1970’s, attaining honorary status as a member for nearly 60 years.  He was also active in the SIR, a social activity group for retired men in California.  He loved to cook and spent his free time as a volunteer in the knee clinic at Kaiser Hospital in Fremont.

He had a generous loving spirit and will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, Fremont, on Saturday May 6, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.  A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the old Mission San Jose 43300 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539.  A reception will follow mass at St. Joseph’s Church Hall immediately after the celebration of George’s life.

  2. I am so sorry to hear of George’s passing. He was a very kind and gentle person. The first time I met George and Marilyn many years ago, they noticed I was alone at St.Joseph’s Men’s Club breakfast and they invited me to join them. Both were warm and welcoming.
    My heartfelt condolences to Marilyn and family on his passing.
