Herb passed away Sunday after suffering from Alzheimer's for the past 9 years. Herb was born in Minneapolis, MN to George and Emelia Taus in 1928 . He grew up with four sisters, Lorraine, Irene, Rose, and Patricia in Edina, MN. Her served in the Navy for four years as an electronic technician. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1954 earning a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
He married Beatrice Freischle in Duluth, MN in 1953. They were married 60 years. Herb is survived by his loving wife, Bea, and four children Elizabeth Morrison, Peter Taus (Paige) Daniel (Antoinette) Taus, Margaret (Stephen) Campbell, 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two sisters Rose Linden and Patricia Little.
Herb spent his career in the medical device industry beginning with GE which also involved GE courses in general management and marketing. His experience included 22 years as CEO and President/General Manager of large to small medical device businesses including General Electric Co, Laserscope, Abbott Laboratories, and Medtronic. He was involved with new product development, manufacturing, and marketing; holding significant management positions in each area. He was an independent consultant in Medical Devices to all his former companies and rehired by GE to become general manager of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance in 1983. He also took two companies public prior to his retirement. After his retirement in 1991, he continued to work as a consultant to early stage start-up companies service as a Director.
He was active as a member of Catholic Charities of the East Bay receiving the Diocesan ward for Outstanding Merit in October 1998. He was a member of the Band of Angels, President of Die Golden Gate Zechers, President of the St. Joseph Men's Club and an active parishioner at St. Joseph, Mission San Jose.
Herb enjoyed entertaining his friends and relatives, computers, woodworking, photography, gardening, travel, opera, the symphony and German Shepherds.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18th at St. Joseph Church, Fremont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland, CA., St. Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph Church or to any charity of your choice.
