Howard Nelson July 15, 1930-Mar 4, 2013 Resident of Fremont Howard S. Nelson was born in Rockford, Illinois on July 15, 1930, the son of Lois and Leo Nelson. He graduated from West High School in 1948 and earned a Civil Engineer degree at Michigan State University in 1952. He served as a U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant in Korea in 1954. While working at Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford he was transferred to the Bay Area where he was an Aeronautical Engineer at the United Airlines Maintenance Base, covering civilian and military aircraft for 35 years. Howard was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed golf and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice, his five children, Eric (Aileen), Karen (John), Lyn (Chuck), Kris (Clifford) and Lisa (Michael); and six grandchildren, Devon, Kelsee, Julie, Ben, Rebecca and Ryan. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean. A family service will be held this summer at the San Joaquin National Cemetery near Santa Nella, CA.
