James “Jim” Harrison,
A resident of Fremont since 2009 passed away peacefully in his home February 8, 2024.
Born on Sept. 6, 1936, in Minneapolis, MN born to Ronald & Josephine Harrison.
He is survived by his devoted wife Candie Harrison of 47 yrs: daughter Kim José, grandchildren Shawn José (Marina), great grandchildren Christian & Logan José, Mia & Nathaniel Morales, granddaughter Anna Phillips (Danny) & great grandchildren Daniella, Daniel & Ezekiel Phillips, daughter Lori Ledezma (Leo), grandson TJ Lyons (Teresa), great grandchildren Tommy V, Lily & Leia Lyons, grandson Paul Ledezma (Amanda) & grandson Luke (Aliyah), Grandson Ryan Harrison (Jessica), great grandchildren Ryan, Robbie, Ruben, Rebecca & Rachel Harrison, Granddaughters Kaitlyn Harrison & Lexi Harrison (Marissa), & Auryana Rodriguez. Grandsons Zander Rodriguez (Brooke) & Jesse (Rosalie), great grandson Michael. He is predeceased by his son Randy Harrison.
He joined the Air Force in January 1955 and served until October 1966. Both his daughters were born in France while serving and he traveled and lived in several different countries. He then joined the Hayward Police department as a police officer, then a traffic accident investigator and then on to special investigations. He served at the Hayward dept. for about 6 yrs. His greatest career appointment was as Chief of Police at Cal State Hayward and he served for about 6 yrs before starting his own private investigative service. He then sold his business and ventured into the mortgage industry as a broker for many years until retirement.
Jim was an avid sports fan, A’s season ticket holder for 41 yrs, San Jose Sharks season ticket holder for 25 yrs. He loved football starting with the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders (season ticket holder in the 60’s) and then a 49’er fan. He owned a cabin in Lake Tahoe for about 20 yrs, where he spent many years skiing. He spent about 29 years traveling to Arizona for the Cactus league for spring training. He then volunteered for about 15 yrs. as a Sundancer at Surprise ballpark. His greatest passion was golf. He spent as many hours as possible on the golf course or driving range that he could. He probably owned enough golf clubs, & shoes to open his own pro shop. He loved Arizona so much for the baseball & golf that they purchased a home in Sun City West, AZ in 2003.
He was a member of SIRS & Romeos for many years, through them he went to the AT&T at pebble beach to volunteer for the golf tournament for 8 yrs.
He became a member at Bay Area Baptist Church in Fremont 4 years ago, which became a family to him.
Visitation will be 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Berges-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angeles at 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont. Service will be 11:00 a.m. at Bay Area Baptist Church at 2929 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
