Dorothy Jean Spansel, age 75, passed away at her home in Fremont on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. It was her birthday, and she got the greatest gift ever - to meet Jesus. She was born on July 3, 1943 in Hillsboro, Kansas to D. Edmond and Ruth Hiebert. She was a graduate of Tabor College and Fresno State University, where she received her teaching credential and would go on to teach students in the Fremont Unified School District for 30 years. On July 9, 1967, she married Malvern Errol Spansel, who preceded her in death on July 9, 1990. Jean became step-mom to three children, and together with Errol had two more children. Jean loved her church family and enjoyed serving in various areas including AWANA and the nursery. She enjoyed her many friendships through TWEK, Women of the Word, Grief Recovery, and her regular lunches with all her retired teacher friends. She loved her miniatures, her teddy bears, her San Francisco Giants, and her grandkids. She is survived by her brother, Dean (Carol); sister, Alice; children, Steven (Debbie), Carolyn (Mark), Greg (Karen), Mark (Michelle), and Martha (Brent); and 7 grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:30 am at Bridges Community Church, 505 Driscoll Rd., Fremont, CA 94539.
