Dr. Joe N. Kimura, 77, passed away on April 8, 2012 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Santa Rosa, CA, he was the youngest of five siblings and the son of the late Kazuo and Tsurue Kimura. The family relocated to Denver, CO and in 1957, he married Sally Yamasaki.
Joe graduated from dental school in St. Louis, MO in 1960. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain at Vandenberg AFB and later served in the reserves for seven years.
Joe was a Fremont, CA resident since 1965 when he relocated his family to Fremont to practice dentistry with one of his brothers. He practiced dentistry for 38 years, most of that time in Union City, CA.
Joe is survived by his caring wife of 55 years, Sally. He was a devoted father to Kristine Lynn Cobleigh and husband David of Camas, WA; Susan Marie Kimura and husband Dave Scott of Fremont, CA; Stanley Dean Kimura of Fremont, CA; and Lisa Kimura Roman and husband Ron of Fremont, CA. Joe is survived by his sister, Betty Yamashita of Denver, CO and brothers Jack Kimura of Denver, CO; Manabu Kimura of Denver, CO; and Dr. Shoge Kimura of Fairfield, CA. Joe is also survived by his loving grandchildren - Alison, Matthew, Rachel and Ryan.
Joe was an avid golfer and gardener. He also enjoyed playing cards with his Tuesday buddies.
Joe was a Charter and Life member of the Union City Lions Club. He was a past-President and Board Member of the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City, CA. He was also a member of the Japanese American Citizen League (JACL), California Dental Association and Southern Alameda County Dental Association. In addition, Joe was active in the Sunol Valley Men's Golf Club.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe's life at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 17 at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church, 32975 Alvarado-Niles Road, Union City, CA.
