John Ervin Tuck, a longtime resident of Fremont, passed away at his home in Duncanville, Texas on April 5, 2013. He was born February 19, 1919 in Hanna, McIntosh County, Oklahoma to Joe and Maggie Tuck. He spent his early years in the farming country of Oklahoma and Texas. He served two years in the Civilian Conservation Core (CCC), before joining the U.S.Army in February 1941. He was assigned to the First Armored Division, Company B, 18th Tank Battalion as a tank driver. He was in active combat the full duration of World War II with Patton's 3'rd army. His service included, North Africa, Tunisia, Naples, Italy and Sicily. He was honorably discharged on June 11, 1945, having earned four Battle Stars, the Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Marksmanship Medal.
He returned to Amarillo, Texas where he was employed in the trucking and construction industry for several years. He was married to Winnie Sarah Rozell on October 22, 1946 and continued to make their home in Amarillo until the mid1950's when they moved the family to the Los Angeles area. In the early 1960's work opportunities brought them to the Bay Area and they settled in Fremont, where John continued working in the construction industry. Sadly, life changed when Winnie passed away suddenly in May 1970, he continued to live in the home they had established. He retired in 1982 and was very proud of having received the 55 year membership pin from Carpenters Local 713, Alameda County. In 2003 he married Omelee (Hill) Wiginton a friend of his early years in Texas and they split their time between Texas and California until health problems prevented traveling and he sold his home of 47 years in Fremont and moved to Texas in July of 2010.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, 1st wife Winnie, two brothers, Joe and Marian (Bo), two sisters, Mable and Maggie Irene, two sons Johnny D. (Rusty) and Donald Lee, and daughter Judy. He is survived by 2nd wife Omelee of the home, son Rickey Tuck(Joyce) of La Grange, CA, daughter Barbara Tyree (Leroy) of La Grange, CA., 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral service is 2 Pm Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Irvington Memorial Cemetery.
