Juan Rodriguez was born in El Paso Texas in 1934. He moved to Berkeley California in 1946. He attended schools in Berkeley, California and graduated from Berkeley High School. Juan attended Contra Costa Junior college prior to serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1953. (He is a graduate of Ohlone College in Fremont). Juan worked at the Alameda U.S. Naval Air Station for 36 years. Juan held positions as an Aircraft Mechanic, Planner and Estimator and Superintendent of the Naval Aircraft Rework facility.

Juan met his wife Irene while stationed at Norton Air Force base in Southern California. He married his wife Irene on June 22, 1958. They settled in Fremont California in 1960. Juan and Irene had two children, John Rodriguez (dec.) and Anne Marie Lopez. Juan had 5 grandchildren, John Rudy Rodriguez (dec.) Marissa Martinez, Michael John and Johnny Rodriguez, and Daniel Lopez.

Juan was active in many local Fremont organizations and led a life of service to his community. He was the Commander of the American G.I. Forum Fremont/Newark Chapter. While in office, he helped to raise funds to build the flag monument honoring our local American Veterans at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Fremont, inaugurated in May 2003. He also raised scholarship money for college bound kids. Juan served on the Human Relations Committee for the City of Fremont and on the Ohlone College Goals Committee.
Juan was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Member, J.G. Littlefield Assembly #2292.
He was a member of the Fremont Elks #2020, as well as a member of the Moose Lodge in Newark, CA.
Juan was also a member of the “5 Spot” dance club in Castro Valley.

While residing in Fremont, Juan was a parishioner of Saint Leonard’s Catholic church, now known as Our lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

He was a member of the Guadalupano Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Fremont.

Juan was a lifelong Raider fan and season ticket holder when the Raiders were based in Oakland. He loved to dance, go fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren and loved to travel with Irene in his retirement years. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and telling them about his stories about his youth and his many travel adventures.

A memorial mass will be held for Juan on Saturday, January 14, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 41933 Blacow Rd., Fremont, CA 94538. A burial will follow at 11:30 AM at Irvington Memorial Cemetery, 41001 Chapel Way, Fremont, CA 94538
