KAREN 'CASEY' STECKLER, 69
Karen 'Casey' Steckler, age 69, of Fremont, California passed away on Thursday (February 5, 2015) at home in hospice care with her husband and daughter after a short battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Craig T. Steckler of Fremont, and mother of Rae Steckler-Homorody of Fremont.
Casey was born in San Francisco, California on January 3, 1946 and was an only child. She is the daughter of the late Raymond and Patricia Martin her parents who proceeded her in death. Her father was a career Marine and Casey moved to several different states as is often the case with children of military personnel.
Casey began her adult career as a hair stylist and worked in that profession for over 30 years before retiring and opening an antique store in the Niles District of Fremont. Her love of quality antiques and decorating are evident in her store The Iron Dog Antiques and Such, 37589 Niles Blvd, Fremont.
Casey and her daughter Rae Steckler-Homorody opened the store from May of 2002 and Rae will continue operating The Iron Dog. Casey made numerous friends and was known to most people in the Niles District as a creative, friendly and fun filled woman. She was always willing to help other antique dealers to be successful and shared much of her knowledge of antiques with others. She had a special eye for decorating and many people would complement her on the designs in the store, especially the Christmas season decorating that she and Rae do annually.
Besides her husband, Craig, Casey leaves her daughter Rae, son-in-law Marcus, three step children, Terri, Suzanne and Mark, and ten grandchildren.
Casey was an incredible woman and loved to travel and visited several countries always buying antiques for the store and home. Her favorite were the Paris flea markets most especially Les Puces de Saint-Ouen and Marche aux Puces de la Porte de Vanves where she spent days browsing and buying at antique stores and booths.
Services will be held Friday February 20, 2015, at Corpus Christi Church, 37891 2nd Street in the Niles District of Fremont at 3:00 PM. There will be a celebration of her life after the services at The Vine restaurant on 37553 Niles Blvd. in Fremont.
Memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to Wounded Warrior Project, 8880 Rio San Diego Drive, Suite 900, San Diego, Cal 92108
