Laura Pessagno long time Fremont resident passed away at her home peacefully just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday.
She was one of the founders of the Washington Township Hospital Service League and an active member for 65 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Born and reared in South San Francisco she married Gene in 1940 and moved to the town of Niles which incorporated with four other towns into the City of Fremont in 1956.
Laura was preceded in her death by her husband Gene, her daughter Janet Pessagno and her brothers Aldo and Leo Padreddii. She is survived by her daughter Joan (Allen) Lopez, grandchildren Tony (Alysa) Avila, Tim (Stacie) Avila, Gina Avila, and Ali Lopez, great-grandchildren Zachary, Katrina, Luca and Matteo Avila and Cian and Fallon Yakeley, and numerous surrogate sons, daughters, nieces and nephews.
Laura loved to cook and her risotto, minestrone soup and desserts warmed the hearts of family and friends. Laura loved to crochet and do calligraphy. She provided years of service to Washington Hospital & helped create and often volunteered at the Gene Angelo Pessagno charity golf tournament in memory of her husband.
A remembrance for Laura will be held at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 3 to 6 pm. A private burial will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 11 AM.

Laura was a member of the Washington Hospital Service League for a remarkable 68 years, from 1955 until her passing, This remarkable record of community service will probably never be matched. She was a pillar of our community at Washington Hospital. We will miss her so much.
