It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, María del Carmen Domínguez Flores, who left us on December 31, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on January 2, 1936 in Laredo Texas Carmen lived a life full of love, devotion, and kindness.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, José Alfonso Flores who passed away in 2019, and is survived by her brother, Mario Domínguez, and her eight children: María Donato, José Flores, Sara Domínguez Flores, John Flores, Blanca Flores, Rose Thomas, Isabel Merritt, and Ramón Flores. Her legacy lives on through her six grandchildren: Susana Donato, Gabe Donato, Erica Donato, Jessica Flores, Ashley Thomas, and Taylor Merritt.
Carmen’s life was one of devotion to her family, and her greatest joy came from making those around her feel loved and cherished. A humble, kind, and generous soul, she was known for her incredible cooking—especially her tamales, menudo, and tortillas, which were the heart of every family gathering. Whether in the kitchen or around the table, Carmen’s food was more than just nourishment; it was an expression of her love, a way for her to care for and bring together her family. To her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as Tía Carmen, and they will forever remember the warmth and laughter that filled her home as she served her delicious meals.
Carmen’s love extended beyond the kitchen. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing lotería, and simply being present for those she loved. Her spirit was a constant source of light, and her humble heart touched everyone who knew her. Her generosity, warmth, strength and kindness will never be forgotten.
Carmen was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and tradition. One of Carmen’s most beautiful attributes is that she was a very embracing and accepting human being, who loved unconditionally. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she strived daily to live up to its teachings with unwavering dedication and grace. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the stories we share, the food we prepare, and the love we continue to pass down through the generations.

  6. Our condolences to the Dominguez/Flores family. My beautiful cousin Carmen. I’m so glad my wife,Tricia, and I got to visit her in October before she passed. She was a wonderful and generous person. Grandma Sarita used to call her “La cosinera” cause she was always in the kitchen cooking for everybody. My family and I used to visit her mother, tia Lela, quite often when I was in the Navy stationed at Moffett Field, California and it was always a great pleasure to see all the Dominguez family. May God have a special place for her and may she rest in peace.

  9. CandleMy dearest Tia Carmen. I do not know how I was so lucky, how we were ALL so lucky to have been blessed with such a beautiful soul in our lives. The love you always showed all of us, the laughter and most importantly the faith. You inspire me every day to be a better person and to always look to our Lord. Your unwavering love for our Lord and the way you truly showed anyone that they mattered is something I will never forget. I will miss visiting you and feeling your hugs and hearing your laughter, I know you are with your family and my Mom, Delia, now.     We remember your family growing up on Gatewood St. We were your neighbors behind you, Our mother’s would be talk through the fence & sometimes drink coffee together, My parents moved away in 1985 & I use to play with mostly Maria. But your Mom was a beautiful & nice Lady. May she rest in Peace & know now she is with your Father.

    I love you and will miss you so much. I have so many happy memories of visiting you and Grandpa. From when I was very little until now, I have always felt safe, comfortable, and loved whenever I saw you. I remember making tortillas and sharing sour candy with you when I was little, and how you would always touch my face with so much love whenever I saw you. Your heart radiates warmth and kindness, and your strength and devotion are gifts that inspire me and help me up when I feel down. You made everyone around you feel special, and I will always remember how special my Grandma Flores is.
