Maria Fatima Neves

Maria Fatima Neves, 74, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on May 28, 2026. She was born on October 13, 1951 in Feteira, Faial, Azores to Joao and Zelia Faria. She lived in Alameda County for 61 years.

Fatima attended Newark High School and graduated in 1970. She then met and married the love of her life, Jose Alberto Neves. She worked at American High School as a baker for the Fremont Unified School District. She retired on December 28, 2013.

She was devout to her religion and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Parsh here in Fremont. She was an active member of the Portuguese Newark Sport Club and the Sociedade Filarmónica Recreio do Emigrante Português. Maria had many hobbies. She loved to cook, bake, crochet, garden and read.

Fatima is survived by her loving husband, Jose Alberto Neves; Daughter, Dalila Maria Neves (Stephen); Son, Jose Alberto Neves Jr. (Kelley); Grandchild, Alida Caterina Neves; sister, Maria da Gloria Correia and brother, Manuel Antonio Faria.

She was beloved by so many and always referred to her own children, children’s friends, nieces, nephews, and children of friends, as her “babies.” No matter what happened in life’s challenges, she would always say “Be positive! Anything is possible with God! Pray to Our Lady…”. Her generosity, patience, kindness, and love were always unconditional.

A vigil rosary for Fatima will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 6:30 PM at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 41933 Blacow Rd., Fremont, CA with a burial to follow at Irvington Memorial Cemetery.
