Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Redeker (nee Doyle) was born on October 11, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Blanche Gross and William J. Doyle Sr., and passed away May 10th, 2015 in Fremont, California. After growing up and attending school in Ohio, she lived most of her life in California. She was married to Fred G. Redeker from 1943 to 1971. Betty graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. After graduation she worked briefly for Standard Oil and then as a teacher in various California school districts, including Montara (1948-1950), Pinole (1953-1968) and Palm Springs (1968-1981). She 'retired' in 1981 but continued to work as a substitute teacher and an interior decorator until the age of 82. She moved back to the Bay Area from Palm Springs in 2004. Betty loved children and loved to teach. She brought energy, enthusiasm and creativity to the classroom. Betty also enjoyed reading, hiking, listening to classical music, and helping others. She volunteered and was a member of various womens' organizations in Palm Springs. She attended Bridges Community Church for the past 10 years, and enjoyed attending Bible studies there. Betty is survived by her son Fritz, his wife Carolyn Emrie Redeker, and their three children Neil, Elizabeth, and Daniel; as well as her sister Jeannie Wahle and many beloved members of her extended family. There will be a celebration of life service at Bridges Community Church, 505 Driscoll Road, Fremont, CA, on June 13, 2015 at 3 PM Donations may be made to World Vision to help needy children.
