  1. Dear Smayling family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Mike was my manager at Applied Materials in the transistor group. I learned so much from him. He has a caring, kind heart and he is genuinely helping us to be better technologists. I feel very sad about his passing.
My sincere condolences to your family.
I will let my other co-workers know. Also want to check if the funeral is open to his previous co-workers.

  2. Hi Bingxi, thank you so much for the kind words about my dad. Yes, his services on Saturday are open to all. Work brought him such joy and we’d love to see you and his other colleagues there.

  3. I had the pleasure and honor to work with Mike for almost ten years at Tela. He was passionate about semiconductor manufacturing process and was clearly a leader in his field. His contributions to making Tela successful are immeasurable, appreciated and will always be remembered. Far more importantly, however, is that Mike was truly a good person. He could be serious but I also fondly remember his wry sense of humor. In a good-natured way he would always want to keep this non-technical finance guy on his toes. Mike loved his family and friends immensely. I am deeply saddened by his passing. He will be dearly missed.
My heartfelt condolences go to the family and his dearest friends.

  4. Dear Family, we are sorry to hear of the loss of dear loved one Michael. Words seem not enough at this time, but the God has promised us that soon sickness and death will
be a thing of the past (Revelation 21:3,4) and we all look forward to that time. Our love and prayers go out to the Family. Warm Christian Love, The Negrones Family

  5. Dear Smayling family, I feel very sad about his passing. My sincere condolences to you. He invented new design technology and introduced it to semiconductor industry which made our current mobile lifestyle possible. I worked with him to advance the technology when he and I worked for Tela and a Japanese company. I could learn a lot how to develop technology and business and the spirit of Silicon Valley from him. He was a vey good person as well. He loved Japan and often visited it. It was my pleasure I could be in contact with him personally.

  6. I just got back to the USA last night. I heard about Mike’s passing just as I left last week. I just had met with Mike about three weeks ago. His passing as I am sure for everyone is a tremendous shock.

Mike was an amazing person both professionally and personally. He embodied in my opinion the virtues of mid America where he was raised. Hard working, smart as heck and principled. It was really a pleasure knowing him and working with him. He will be missed. I hope we can honor his contribution by making his enterprises successful.

  7. Dear Smayling Family,

I had the pleasure of working with Mike to help obtain a number of patents for his inventions when he worked at Tela. Mike was a very talented innovator, and it was clear that he enjoyed his work. But, what I remember most strikingly about Mike was that he always had a smile and a soft-spoken way about him that was pleasant to be around. Mike will be missed. I am very sorry for your loss. Mike and you are in my prayers.
