Born in: Ontario, California
Resided in: Fremont, California

Nellie Rojas, 91, passed away at her home on Monday, April 17, 2023, in Fremont, California from natural causes.

She was born in Ontario, California to Manuel and Ysaac Armendarez. It was in Ontario that she met her lifelong friend, Delores Jimenez. Nellie traveled and worked the fields of the central valley before meeting her husband of almost 45 years, Jacinto Rojas. They were married in 1948, in Reno, Nevada. Their first residence was in Hayward, California where all their children were born. Nellie worked for Hunts cannery for many years, was a nurse’s aide, and retired from the Masonic Home in Union City, California after 28 years of employment.

Nellie lived a life full of laughter and joy. While
in Fremont, she was a loyal church member at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, formally known as Santa Paula, and was instrumental in the formation of mass for the Spanish speaking community. She loved performing in the Churches Hawaiian choir and serving the community through St. Vincent de Paul.

She enjoyed tending to her roses and orchids and traveling with her friend Delores. She especially loved Yosemite and traveled there as often as possible. On her 60th birthday, she hiked up Vernal and Nevada falls with her family and celebrated at the top with champagne!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacinto Rojas, her parents, and siblings Vera, Nacho, Manuel and Connie and her son Michael. She is survived by her daughter Juanita, son Rick (Tillie), and son Paul (Deana). She also is survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. She loved and was loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Nellie wished special acknowledgments to Delores, Amelia, Enedina, Joe, Diane, Linda, hospice, and care giver Mary.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. 1996 Auntie and Dores visited us. We took them to Mt Ranier. Auntie wanted to stop at Reflection Lakes. She and Lupe got out. Auntie wanted a closer look, went down the path and slid most of the way in the snow on her butt laughing all the way. Delores hollering at her. One of my most precious memories. Much love for Auntie.
