Newell Leal deRoche

Newell Leal deRoche, a life long resident of Fremont, passed away on September 26, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born on April 5, 1921 in Terceira, Azore Islands to Aniceto and Emelia daRocha. Beloved husband of thelate Joy deRoche. Loving father of Stacy Swartz and husband Greg of Pleasanton, and the late Noel Baker. Cherished grandfather of Danielle Johnson of Fremont, Eric Baker of Utah, GW Swartz of Tracy, Garrison Swartz of Livermore, and Garnner Swartz of Livermore. Newell enjoyed designing and making silver and turquoise jewelry, traveling and cruising. He was employed by General Electric as a mechanical engineer for 25 years. Newell was a lifelong member of Holy Spirit Church and the Elks Lodge. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil held at Berge- Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538. An 11:00 AM Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Church on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, 37588 Fremont Blvd. Fremont, CA 94536. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in Newell's name to Sister John Marie's Pantry, P.O. Box 3276, Fremont, CA 94538.
