Born in: Alaminos, Philippines
Resided in: Fremont, California

Norma Maglalang passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 at the age of 81, surrounded by her loving family, after a prolonged decline in health.

Norma was born to Bienvenido and Feliza Mendez in Alaminos (a province of Pangasinan) Philippines.  In Norma’s hometown, she was called “the pretty girl” who loved to sing and dance.  Norma was the eldest of four children, she was known as “Manang” (a dialect in Ilocano) to her siblings and is survived by brother Cresencio Mendez and twin sisters Lena Malvar and Lita Purganan.

Norma migrated to the United States at the age of 18, with a brief stay in Oahu HI, then continued to Seattle WA, where she met her life partner, Victorio Maglalang.  Norma and Victorio have been married for over 56 years and have four children.

Norma started her career in the restaurant industry and held multiple roles, which prepared her for restaurant ownership. The family relocated to California in 1976, then in 1983 Norma had the opportunity to own a restaurant in Fremont California. With the pride of ownership, Norma’s Tigpaw Restaurant was a favorite local eating establishment for 18 years, known for their famous “ham steak and egg” breakfast (which people still talk about to this day), along with many other delicious Filipino and American style dishes. Norma was beloved by all customers and employees.  After the restaurant years, Norma continued to provide a supportive role at the Depot Diner in the historic Centerville train station.

Norma was beloved by all who met  her. She was kind, generous, caring, loved to tell stories and make people happy.  She welcomed everyone she came in contact with and was always willing to help. She loved to create special meals for family, friends, and patrons.  She was happiest when surrounded with family and friends. Norma loved going to casinos and spending time watching the horses at the racetrack.  May she rest in peace, forever in God’s hands.

Norma is survived by a large family starting with her loving husband Victorio Maglalang; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Dirk Lorenz, grandchild Rodel; daughter and son-in-law Cecilia and Michael Agosta, grandchildren Lanicia (RIP), Louis, Nico, Carlos, Julian and great-grandson Micco; daughter and son-in-law Bernardita and Jeff Roe, grandchildren Timoteo, Isaiah, Cheyenne, Zachery, Christopher, Kurt, Tyler and great-grandchildren Masen, Charlie Ann, Braden, Jayce;  son and daughter-in-law Albert and Virginia Maglalang, grandchildren April (RIP), twins Alyson and Dylan (RIP), Madison and Jaxson.

  1. CandleI am so blessed to have had such an amazing mother. As a role model, she taught me the importance of hard work, and also that you should always help those less fortunate than yourself. She was so strong, yet so gentle and caring. She loved to tell stories and laugh. You would often hear her say something silly and then say, “Just kidding!”. I will miss her so terribly much, but I am so thankful the love and life that she gave me for the past 59 years of my life.
I love you so much Mom. You are with Jesus now. Rest in peace.

  2. Love you for what you’ve taught your children, the compassion you’ve shown to all you’ve met and for accepting me into your family. You’re sweet disposition will always inspire me to be a better husband and human. Love you mom.

  3. What I remember most about Norma was her soft demeanor, beautiful smile ,& being such a sweet lady! When she would stop by Fremont Flowers I always loved seeing which cute hat she’d be wearing ! Thoughts & prayers to the family, Your Mom was so precious, Love, Luanne & Bill Hess

  4. CandleI always enjoyed observing Auntie Norma enjoying being in the presence of her family. Those were the absolute best days of her life. Without saying a word, I could tell she cherished every moment. It was such a joy to behold! She was always so welcoming and had such a lively sense of humor. She loved to laugh and loved making others laugh and feel welcome. Thank you, Auntie Norma for making me feel a part of the family. I will always remember you!❤️
