Born in: Oklahoma City, OK
Resided in: Fremont, CA

Orphia Lester “Les” Addison, Jr., passed away Tuesday, August 1st after several years of health complications. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years LaVonne Addison and his children and their spouses, Dennis and Linda Addison of Fremont and Denise and Kent Bettendorf of McKinleyville, CA. He was a very proud grandfather to Kyle, Trevor, Ren and their spouses Elisa, Corrin, and Tanna. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Orphia and Effie Addison, his three sisters and two brothers and his beloved grandson, Jaren Bettendorf.

Les was born December 17, 1931, in Oklahoma City, OK and grew up in Oklahoma and the Bay Area before moving to his home of 62 years in Fremont. He and LaVonne met at church and dated a few years before marrying. People said they were too young, but their 68 years together proved them wrong. Les worked at General Grinding, Inc. in Oakland for 44 years as a precision machinist.

Les had many interests in life, but his priority was always his family whom he loved dearly.  He was very handy around the house and enjoyed building many things. They bought a place on the water in Clear Lake and spent many fun years with family and friends waterskiing, boating, and enjoying the lake. Les and LaVonne loved traveling and went to 6 continents, 79 countries, and 45 states. He served as Big Sir for the Sons in Retirement and was a member for many years.

Les was full of fun, and everyone enjoyed being around him. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of life for Les will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 2:00 PM at Berge Pappas Smith chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538.

  1. CandleLavonne and family-
It is with a heavy heart that I think of Les and his passing. Know that his smile holds a very special spot in my heart and is with me always. I truly admired, the husband, father and grandfather Les was. He supported his family and others to the fullest level of capacity, he will be forever remembered for his gift of giving, be it a smile a joke a hug or a rock. Rest in Peace my dear friend.
