Robert Edmund Gallicano
Resident of Fremont
May 15, 1937 – December 13, 2016
Robert Edmund Gallicano entered into rest on December 13, 2016 in Fremont. He was born May 15, 1937 in San Francisco, CA, moving to Fremont in 1978 where he resided for 39 years. Bob was a loyal employee of Parisian Bakery for 37 years until retiring in May 2000. There were many happy moments during his tenure, but building the many friendships he acquired at San Francisco Airport made him most proud. Prior to joining Parisian he worked as a butcher, served his country in the United States Army and was a salesman for Granny Goose Company. He was a proud union member of Teamsters Local 484. Bob was a consummate sports fan but loved his SF Giants & 49ers above all. It seemed he & Joan were destined to be together, for they met on a blind date at a game at Candlestick Park. Bob and his sweetheart fulfilled many of their fantasies by traveling to over 50+ US cities and foreign countries.
Their adventures started by getting married while cruising the Caribbean, followed by 23 + years of travel to the four corners of the earth. Part of the fun that made their life so special was Bob's love for dancing. Because of that it was not hard to understand why he was given the moniker of Disco Danny. Little went unnoticed about their life style that is not documented in photo albums. Many of them have been used as travel guides by all looking to have a good time. One of Bob's favorite trips was to visit the Gallicano Family home town of San Stefano, Italy (where his Father Edmund was raised).
He is survived by his beloved daughter Susan (Lance), and his adored stepchildren Matt (Vickie), Gerald (Cristina), and Laura (Rob). Grandpa's favorite people were his grandchildren; Conner, Cambria and Caden Norton, as well as Reiko, Willem and Bryan Bottero. Loving brother of Arlene Pleich (Mike), and Patricia Ferrari. He was also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many close friends too numerous to mention. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, his parents Edmund and Theresa Gallicano, and his daughter Linda.
Getting together to share his life will be time to mourn, share memories, laugh, see old friends, and celebrate the life of one whose dearest dream was to be thought of as loving, caring and fun to be with. He lived by his motto and never met a stranger, but just simply added their names to a friendship list. His string of names became quite long over time.
His family was the single most important thing in his life and as a result, it made him a role model that will be difficult to follow. Remember him for the inspiration he lived by. 'You will always survive with your family by your side.'
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to his favorite charity, Special Olympics. Better yet, take a friend to lunch and tell them the things that are never thought about until someone is gone forever.
A celebration of Bob's life will be celebrated at a later date. We would like for you to join us in celebrating his life and bring memories of him to share. Please refer to the online obituary at www.bergepappassmith.com for service updates.
Sorry to such a great guy has left us. I will always remember the fun we had at our Parisian gatherings and especially Bob’s happy feet. My condolences to the family.
Former brother-in-law and a all around good guy. RIP Bob..
