Robert Vint Guthmiller

December 17, 1963 ~ October 23, 2013
Resided in:
Fremont, CA
December 17, 1963, Robert Vint Guthmiller was born to Benjamin and Beverly Ann Guthmiller the younger of two sons. As a pre-schooler he was reading the grocery ads to his mother telling her the items on sale. Through his school years he excelled academically. He will never be forgotten for his contribution to the Mission San Jose High School Freshman class for spirit week when he dressed in a pink ballet tutu much to the chagrin of his older brother. Bob was well-known in high school. No one was a stranger to him, he would casually strike up a conversation with those he encountered.
While in high school he attended Young Life. It was through YL that Bob came to know the Lord Jesus Christ and commit his life to following Him.
After high school he attended Ohlone Community College and Chapman University to study computer science. Following college, he was employed by Lockheed Martin Aerospace in Sunnyvale until his position required a transfer out of state. Consistent with his nature, he declined the transfer to stay in the Bay Area near family.
Bob's passions included computers and anything techie; books especially those by Tom Clancy and Stephen Crane; sports his favorite teams being the Oakland A's, San Francisco 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Jose Sharks; country, classic rock 'n' roll and instrumental music; Top Gun and many other movies.
Bob will be missed by many who enjoyed conversing with him both in person and on Facebook. The outpouring of heart-felt posts on fb testifies to the warm heart and gentle nature of this kind man who departed from our presence much too soon. He will forever be a 49er.
Bob went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2013. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Vinton and Muriel Parkin, John and Dorthea Guthmiller, his parents Benjamin and Beverly Guthmiller. He is survived by his brother Bill, his sister-in-law Cyndie, his nephew Ben and his niece Jennifer Guthmiller.
Family and friends are invited to Bob's Tailgate Party to celebrate his life on Friday, November 1, at 1pm at the Chapel of the Angels in Fremont. In memory of Bob's passion for sports, guests are invited to wear sports apparel from one of Bob's favorite teams.
Sadly , I reside out of state these days . My friendship With Bob came through high school Younglife. We became closer at Ohlone . Many mornings were spent talking over passages of scripture in that cafateria . I always will remember his tenderness to the Lord , and his personal ,practical applications of Gods Holy Word. I will see him again at the Lords marriage supper . Save me a seat close by my friend !
I will miss you my friend and neighbor. Its still hard to believe your gone 🙁 you left way too soon. You will never be forgotten, thank you for all your kindness and for being an awesome person
Bob was a great guy. I was first his friend while classmates at Hopkins Jr. High, then Mission San Jose High, and then reconnected via FaceBook. Bob was our freshman class president and I do still remember him in that tutu! He was always so fun and so kind. I can’t think of my high school years without thinking of Bob. He was our glue.
Bob and I share a common love of sports – though not of sports teams (besides the A’s). I loved to tease him about the 49ers and talk to him about sports in general.
I miss Bob. I find myself thinking of him each day and I am sad that we lost him at so young an age. It is consoling, however, to know that Bob did have a deep religious faith and now he is in Heaven with his parents and others who love him.
Goodbye Bob. I will never forget you.
Bob…May you rest in eternal peace.
Bill, we are praying for you and your family. I remeber when I would visit, Bob was always there in the conversation. He was a good kid! As you know IF am a packer fan but will wear a 49er shirt that my nephew gave me when he worked for them, in Bob’s memory!! Be strong. Ed gumbert
I’m over 3 years late in finding out, dear friend, that you went to heaven. I don’t remember exactly how we met – either through YL or bible study through EFree church on Driscol. I only remember how smart you were and that you never ever made me feel like I wasn’t as smart. I have missed you these past couple of years and when your b-day reminder came up, I wished you well. I’m thankful to have had you as a friend even if it was only a short time. One day we will see each other again. Until then, my love always.
