Roberts Torrey

roberts torrey
Roberts (Bob) Torrey passed away on December 18th, surrounded by his loving family and having acknowledged that he had lived a tremendously full life. Born in San Diego, Bob was raised in Pleasanton, California and attended Amador High School and San Jose State University. He served in the US Navy as a pilot, and then entered into a career as an air traffic controller with the FAA. 'Captain Bob' was an avid yachtsman and also greatly enjoyed hiking, skiing, gardening, and carpentry - but his favorite adventure was traveling the world with his wife, Katherine. Roberts touched the lives of many with his charm, humor, kindness and wisdom. He was a true gentleman and loved to hear or tell a good story – often with uproarious laughter. His outgoing spirit and friendship will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Katherine; son Scott (Masayo) Torrey and daughters Charlotte (Karl) Empey and Lisa Torrey; niece Julie Dunkle; grandchildren Colin, Jillian and Ian Empey, and Yukino, Takeo, and Senji Torrey; and grandnephew Michael Dunkle. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Elsnab, and numerous wonderful nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life on January 29, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Church, (Mission San Jose) 43148 Mission Blvd. Fremont, CA 94539.
