Rose Anita Vajibian Ackerman of Salinas, Ca., died on December 14, 2018 at her Care Home in Fremont , Ca. Rose was 95.
Rose was born on February 17, 1923, in New York City, New York and was one of four daughters born to Dikron and Anna Jorjorian Vajibian. She attended public schools in New York City. She briefly worked for a record company making records and during the war she worked on airplanes as a reveter.
On May 12, 1943, Rose married Frederick Carter Ackerman who preceded her in death on October 6, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Mary Dodakian, of Belmont, Mass; Elizabeth Bolsetzian, of Chichester, NY; and Shakie Macher of Roanoke, Va. Rose also was preceded in death by her sons Richard Carter Ackerman, in May 2012, and Arthur Frederick Ackerman in May of 2013.
Rose Ackerman is survived by her daughter, Carol-Ann Ackerman and son-in-law, Arthur Roy Grady. Also surviving Rose is her grandson Michael Ackerman, son of Richard Ackerman from Fresno, Ca. Her surviving grandchildren from Arthur Frederick Ackerman are Arthur Carter Ackerman, of Pasadena, Ca; Kasana Hatmaker, residing in Costa Mesa, Ca; and Stephanie Ackerman, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mrs. Ackerman moved to Salinas in 1957. During that time in Salinas, she worked for Soledad Correctional Facility for 27 years until she retired. After retirement, she worked for McGraw-Hill and the election board. She was a member of California State Employees Associations, Hillcrest Methodist Church and later on joined Northminister Presbyterian Church. She was a resident of Salinas until 2016. She moved to a care home at the beginning of 2016 to be close to her daughter Carol.
Some of her favorite things were traveling to foreign countries and throughout the United States, visiting relatives, reading, embroidery work, and crocheting towels and afghans for family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 12, 2019 at 1:00 at Northminster Church at 315 E. Alvin Dr. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Cancer Society of America. Arrangements were by Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels.
So many years and so many adventures. Rose and I spent many days together. I will miss her laugh, her stories, and her spontaneous nature. I will miss her more than you know. Love and sympathy for your loss.
