October 8, 1925 ~ July 27, 2022
Born in:
San Francisco, California
Resided in:
Fremont, California
Sidney Bernard Krow, a postman and long-time resident of Fremont passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 at 96 after battling long term illnesses. We are thankful he is no longer suffering and at peace.
He was born in San Francisco, California on October 8, 1925 to Aaron and Sarah Krow. He was the third of four children. Sidney is survived by his two daughters Michelle Krow and Stacy Armstrong, son-in-law Chris Armstrong; two grandchildren Braeden and Jamison as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Aaron Krow, mother Sarah Krow, wife Eunice Krow, son Brian Krow, sisters Caroline (“Carol”) Pollack, Gloria Krow, brother Morris Krow, nephew Daniel Krow and sister-in-law Elaine Nelson.
Sidney grew up in the depression and his early occupations were spent in button & rattan furniture sales. He was proud to have served in the United State Navy during World War II. It was while working as a mail carrier in the Financial District of San Francisco that he learned the “ins and outs” of stock market trading. He worked for the Federal Government for over 44 years. Although not a gambler, he also was skilled at playing “Craps” and he and my mom loved visiting Reno. He enjoyed going to the movies, exercising, traveling, and was an avid Oakland A’s Fan.
Sidney will always be remembered for his good-natured personality, generosity and devotion to his family. He was a modern dad ahead of his time while helping raise a family in the 70’s and 80’s. He was never afraid to take on the roles of diapering, cooking, chauffeuring and being a nurse to his children when they were sick. He had a distinctive deep sounding voice that people would point out when they met him. He was a true “character” in the best way.
Sidney lived life in a very “zen like” way. He chose to focus on the here and now, never dwelling in the past. He had many curveballs thrown at him later in life and whenever he got knocked down, he would get right back up, literally and metaphorically. Even with cancer that had went to his bones, a failing heart and lungs and a recent stroke, he was able to get out of bed and walk again in his last month of life.
He was the true definition of a “Mensch,” living his life with honesty and integrity always. Sidney will be forever in our hearts and his legacy will live on through the wonderful memories!
A celebration of life will be at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA on Saturday, November 5th starting at 12:30 p.m. In honor of his favorite team, “The Oakland Athletics,” feel free to wear yellow and green.
Sidney will be laid to rest at a later date at “The California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery.”
