Sister Eileen Marie Ahern, formerly Sister Mary Robert, was born to John and Mary Agnes Ahern in San Francisco on May 18, 1924 and died suddenly in Fremont, California on June 22, 2016.
In June 1947 she made her Profession of Vows as a Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose. Sister served in elementary education for 21 years and in social work and pastoral care for 40 years in the Dioceses of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. The keystone of Sister Eileen Marie's ministry was her compassion for the neediest of God's people and her firm resolve to address injustice in their lives. She had a listening heart that was able to touch people deeply in their brokenness. Strong leadership skills and courage enabled her to work effectively in difficult situations. Her last active ministries were Chaplaincy services at Alta Bates Hospital and Pastoral Care to her own frail elderly sisters at the Motherhouse. Since 2010, Sister Eileen Marie resided at the Motherhouse in Fremont where she spent her last years in a ministry of prayer.
