With profound grief we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather Sita Ram Mandal at 4:13 PM on July 3, 2023. Sita Ram passed peacefully surrounded by family after a long, full, and happy life. He is survived by his wife, Kranti Mandal; sons, Rajesh Kumar and Pramathesh Kumar; daughters, Smita Kumar and Anita Kumar; grandchildren, Anupama Kumar, Ami Kumar, Asha Kumar-Omelian, Megan Kumar-Omelian, Uma Kumar-Montei, Alex Kumar, Matthew Kumar-Montei; sons-in-law, Eric Omelian and Eric Montei; and daughters-in-law, Nirmita Kumar and Celeste Kumar. He was preceded in death by his son, Amaresh Kumar.

Sita Ram Mandal was a very loving and dedicated father, grandfather, and husband. Born on February 22, 1931, in Sahibganj, Jharkhand, India, his ambition and desire for success was present from a very young age. Even as a child, he was always at the top of his class. It was for this reason that the headmaster of his school chose him specially to tutor his daughter, Kranti.

After this introduction, Sita Ram and Kranti quickly fell in love, and were engaged to be married on February 11, 1951. They married on May 18, 1958, and remained endlessly devoted to each other throughout their 65 years of marriage. Their love was just as strong in his last few days as it was when they met as teenagers.

As a child, Sita Ram loved swimming. He could swim the entire 3-mile width of the Ganges River and was very active. His commitment to exercising was steadfast and lifelong; he loved to bike, and he took walks every day in his adult life until he was no longer able to. He walked so fast that even his children and grandchildren struggled to keep up with him at times.

Sita Ram had an impressive educational career. He graduated from the Eastern Railway High School in Sahibganj, India in 1947, then studied Intermediate Science at the Patna Science College from 1947 to 1949. Ultimately, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Birsa Institute of Technology in Jharkhand, India, in the year 1953.

His extensive studies led him to great success in his work and career. He rose through the ranks to become the Chief Electrical Project Engineer of the Western Railway in India. Throughout his career as a railway executive, he was strongly committed to professional excellence. He had a reputation for ensuring high-quality outcomes while being an empathetic and well-loved manager.

After his retirement, he lived in his home in Vasai, India. Eventually, he moved with Kranti to the United States, where he spent time living with his children and grandchildren in California, Minnesota, and Virginia.

Sita Ram Mandal valued education, ambition, and hard work as important drivers of achievement that were inextricably linked to the greater good. He played an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren and emphasized the importance of these values to all his family members. His catchphrase “I can do it!” will be remembered fondly by all his surviving family members as an inspiration to overcome any obstacles that may arise. His ardent interest in the educational lives of his grandchildren serves as a great inspiration for all of us to achieve as highly as we can. Most of all, he just wanted his children and grandchildren to be happy and content, something each of his surviving family members will always remember and take to heart. His life is a testimony to the ability of humans to overcome even the direst of circumstances and scale the heights of success, all while being a source of support, care, and love to those around him. His ability to believe in the potential of others as strongly and unconditionally as he did was unparalleled and will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

  2. CandleI don’t have words to express my feelings. I will always cherish his love and affection for me. Since my early childhood I have always admired him. I have very good memories of my early childhood when he used to take me to market and get sweets and fire crackers during Diwali festival. I will miss him very much. We usually conversed in Magahi, our native dialect.

  3. My richest tributes to my beloved late Mausa Shri Sita Ram Mandal, Om Shanti and Shat Shat Naman, RIP Mausa🙏🙏🙏

In mourning from Jyoti and family,
Son of Late Shanti Sahai (elder sister of Kranti Mandal) and Late Jagat Bhushan Sahai)

  4. I was indeed deeply saddened to know about passing away of Sita Ram Mausa. My mother Late Shanti Sahai (elder sister to Kranti mausi) and my late father Jagat Bhushan Sahai were both very close to Kranti Mausi and Mausa. I was a toddler when Kranti Mausi along with Mannu Mausi (Manorama) were studying at Patna Magadh Mahila College, Patna University. Kranti Mausi often used to take out time and visit our Patna Langartoli residence. Later on after their marriage, both mausa and mausi always used to pay visit to us whenever in Patna. I can not forget the tremendous love and affection showered by both Sita Ram mausa and Kranti mausi during one of my Mumbai visit in 80s on my company’s business and while staying in Marine Drive area near Church Gate Station. Respected mausa had taken utmost personal care of me and had even taken me around Church Gate area for an evening walk apart from local train ride. I still remember mausa’s govt residence in Churchgate. My heart deeply goes out for beloved Kranti Mausi and my heartfelt condolences to the entire family at the passing away of Mausa. These few words in the memory of Mausa. Om Shanti🙏🙏💕💕🙏 from Jyoti

  5. CandleThe late S R Mandal was my Nana. I never had a chance to meet him but heard a lot about him from my mother, late Manju Prasad and my father, late Chandra Mohan Prasad.
