Resided in: Campbell, California

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of Somya Jain Chauhan, who passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2025, at the age of 51.

Somya was a trailblazer, a dreamer, and a doer. A remarkable leader in her career, she excelled with passion and purpose, leaving her mark as an accomplished CPA and Finance Leader at Google. Somya had a unique ability to foster connection and build strong, supportive communities wherever she went—a testament to her generosity of spirit and genuine care for others.

A health and fitness enthusiast, Somya embraced life with boundless energy and determination. Whether it was exploring new fitness challenges, savoring the perfect piece of dark chocolate, or sharing a glass of red wine with loved ones, she had a way of making every moment feel special. She saw beauty in the simple joys of life and inspired others to do the same.

Somya’s legacy is one of love, vitality, and togetherness—a reminder to live each day with intention and gratitude. She will be deeply missed by her loving father, Sorabh Kumar Jain; her devoted husband, Sanjay Chauhan; her cherished daughter, Aanya Chauhan; her dear sisters, Neha Jain (Suresh Kumar) and Urvi Jain (Sumeet Bhatia); and her beloved nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her adoring mother, Manjul Jain.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the beautiful memories Somya leaves behind. Her vivacious spirit will forever inspire those who were lucky enough to know her.

  1. Somya – you will be missed! Our monthly get-togethers, whether for lunch or a walk, were always a chance to catch up on life, family, and the kids, and they’re all fond memories that I will miss!

  2. CandleCan’t believe you are no more. It’s hard to imagine this place without your energetic personality, your beautiful smile, and your positive attitude. Until we meet again, I’ll cherish the memories we shared. You will be sorely missed, my friend.

  3. CandleSomya, am heartbroken. My sister’s best friend, beautiful woman and so full of life. Catching up with you last year was obviously meant to be .Rest in peace dear one. Will miss you. Give Anisha the tightest hug from me.

  4. CandleMy quintessential office mate, a workout partner, and an India sister that I never thought I had. Somya, you embodied in your every day action and words what it means to live life to the fullest. Thank you for wearing so many hats for me to illuminate my life. Our car ride up to SF when you were getting your Irish visa at the consulate (shhh….during work hours), our action (and Guinness) packed week on a cold March week in Dublin, and our sprint to catch the shuttle. Will forever cherish the moments with the very best co-worker I could have asked for. Rest in peace my friend.

  5. CandleSanjay and Aanya you don’t know me but Abu and Juju are like family to me and Somya and I were working on Arvasi together. My heart is so heavy for your loss and also so buoyed by the depths of love that surround her and you all now. I have no words that are adequate and yet I have love to add to the well of love that is necessary to hold you through this. So even though you don’t know me, I thought it important for you to know there is even love coming to you from those you don’t know, from all over the world. May it buoy you. ❤️

  6. CandleSomya,

I deeply miss you and can not believe the discussion we had about going to gym last Thursday was the last time we talked. You and I shared total 20+ years working history together with 17+ in Google and 3+ in HP. You are the sunshine that has lightened everyone and my best work friend. I had the honor to know you and your family well through the Sunday Hiking Group. We discussed many topics, kids, family, financial planning and what we will do after the retirement. Your beautiful smile and your gentle voice will be forever in my memory. I am heart broken, while I will try very hard to live the way you would live, with love and joy.

  22. CandleWe don’t have words to to express Soumya’s irreparable loss – We are shocked & saddened to hear unbelievable news- May God give you Courage to Face Life Without Soumya – So Full of Life & Energy She was – Her Time With Us Was Too Short But Her Impact Will Be Colossal- We Stand With You In This Moment Of Grief 🙏🏻🙏🏻

  23. CandleSomya, I remembered our last conversation in December when we walked out of the Finance building together, and we were going to connect in January. You are always so kind to share your thoughts and encouraging new ideas. You will be missed.

  24. CandleCondolences to the family. Sending you much strength, peace and healing. May Somya be at peace. I read this somewhere and hope it offers some peace to the family: “When someone we love passes on, it feels like the world shifts beneath our feet. The emptiness they leave behind is overwhelming, a silence so loud it can consume us. We look for them in every shadow, every whisper of the wind, every familiar song. And yet, as much as we long for their presence, life continues, forcing us to learn a truth we never wanted to know: love doesn’t end when life does.

The people we love truly don’t leave us. They stay in the memories we carry, the lessons they taught us, the love they poured into us. Their laugh echoes in the back of our minds, their favorite phrases sneak into our conversations, and their essence lingers in the spaces they once filled.”

  25. CandleI don’t know how I got so lucky. Somya was my first Googler manager- and an incredible confidant, mentor, and friend. She consistently encouraged me to speak up for myself, and always thought about the professional (and personal) growth of other people, even if it came at a cost to her. Somya’s door was always open- even 8+ years after I left her team, we kept in touch and she always had advice and an answer for everything. If I somehow stumped her, I would get a note or email the next morning with something incredibly insightful, or just that she was thinking about me. She always had my back, and understood where I was coming from even when I couldn’t explain things eloquently. During our regular catch-ups, they weren’t just about work- I knew she cared about me as a person, and encouraged and embodied living life with no regrets. I am 10000% a better manager, mom, and human because I knew her.

  26. CandleOur deepest condolences and prayers are with Somya’s family during this difficult time. No words can truly express the sorrow we feel at her passing. Somya was a vibrant and energetic soul, always brimming with enthusiasm and solutions. She possessed a remarkable ability to share her insights and experiences. Above all, she was an exceptional human being. Somya will be deeply missed

  27. CandleMy deepest condolences to Somya’s family. May you be granted the strength and peace to bear the loss.

In the corridors and cafes of Java and Borregas buildings, I experienced the warmth of Somya’s smile and was fortunate to exchange brief conversations. Though I didn’t get a chance to work with her directly, Somya did inspire me to thrive and be better. Om Shanthi. May she rest in peace.

  28. CandleSorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult and most challenging time. I am so shocked and shattered to hear this.

  29. CandleMy dearest Somya,

I am still struggling to process the reality that last week was the last time I would ever see you. It feels like a cruel dream. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything. Thank you for your unwavering support, your insightful mentorship, and for always being there for me, no matter what. I will forever cherish the memories of your beautiful smile and the way you lit up every room you entered. You had this incredible gift of spreading joy wherever you went, and the world feels a little dimmer without it. I remember our conversation about Diwali plans this year, and I promise to light a candle for you, just as we discussed. It will be a small way to honor your memory and keep your spirit alive in my heart. Somya, thank you for everything you were and everything you meant to me. You will be deeply missed. I am going to miss bothering you all the time.

I am praying for comfort and peace for your friends and family during this incredibly difficult time.

    With love and sorrow,

  56. CandleI am deeply saddened by this loss. Somya was truly one of a kind—a person whose warmth, humility, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her ability to inspire others came so naturally, and I will always remember her as someone who exemplified grace and strength in every sense.

I was fortunate to spend a day with her years ago when I visited the Bay Area for an interview. She took me out to lunch at the Google campus and later welcomed me into her home. Her humility stood out to me as she shared her incredible journey—how she once thought she’d simply be a housewife, but instead found the courage to pursue an MBA. Years later, she had a chance encounter on a plane with the very person who had inspired her. Her story remains a testament to resilience, determination, and the beauty of following one’s path.

Even in her passing, her generosity shines through with the gift of organ donation—a final act of love and compassion that exemplifies the extraordinary person she was.

Somya’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. My thoughts are with her family during this unimaginably difficult time. May her soul rest in peace as she ascends to the heavens above.

    With heartfelt sympathy.

My sincere sympathy to Somya’s family and friends. I hope you find some comfort in that she lives on in each life she has touched. Thank you for sharing her with all of us.

  66. CandleTo Somya’s family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I knew family was so important to her from hearing her talk about Sanjay and Aanya and from her travels to visit her Dad in India and her sisters.

Many of us were lucky to know Somya through Google. As my first manager at Google, I was so lucky to join her team because of the supportive environment and community she cultivated. As one example, she made Dan take me in for Thanksgiving dinner since I moved to the Bay Area without friends and family, and that became an annual tradition. I always admired the authenticity with which she lived life and how passionate she was about everything she did, whether that was in her career, travels, health, and wellness. I remember having a conversation with her back in 2018 about learning to do handstands in yoga and was so happy to see her pursue her yoga certification years later. It was a huge shock to hear of her passing, she will be deeply missed.

  67. CandleMay your light and warmth continue to hold and embrace your loved ones.
I did not meet you often. I thought of you some more. But I will miss you a lot.

  68. CandleSomya was a mentor for me, I’ll keep her in my heart.
Thank you, Somya, for everything. You will be deeply missed.
    With love and remembrance
    Juan

  76. CandleSomya was the most kind, gentle, and supportive soul. I had the joy and pleasure of practicing yoga and handstands with her in various parks and studios on the Peninsula. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of those you inspired, including mine.

  78. Somya, you were an incredible manager, mentor, leader, and person. I am thankful for the time that we had together and the lessons that you instilled upon me. Our last interaction was you popping into a conference room after you walked by and saw me on the screen talking with a colleague. You were always so supportive of helping folks reach their goals, and we were talking about our shared Dublin experiences, a huge goal of mine that you helped me accomplish. Thank you for all of the work and life lessons, they’ll be cherished and actioned.
